Temporarily reserve a customer’s selections during checkout with Reservation timer. This feature temporarily holds capacity for customers while they complete their booking, preventing overbooking during high-demand periods.

This feature may be particularly useful for businesses with high-volume activity or seasonal peaks, or that regularly manage high customer volumes with online queuing.

Reservation timer must be enabled by FareHarbor, and is configured per item. Please reach out to FareHarbor Support for assistance enabling this feature.

Overview

Reservation timer helps streamline the online booking experience by reducing friction and ensuring customers can securely complete a booking within the allotted time.

Benefits of using the reservation timer include:

  • Support high-season traffic by temporarily reserving capacity of in-progress bookings.
  • Reduce booking friction by limiting in-progress bookings based on availability capacity.
  • Boost customer confidence with a high-visibility timer that shows how long the booking capacity is reserved.

The customer experience

When a customer selects capacity during the booking flow, the system will temporarily reserve the chosen capacity for ten minutes. Other customers will not be able to book the reserved capacity unless ten minutes pass before the booking is finalized.

A timer will show the customer how much time remains before the capacity is no longer reserved. If the booking has not been finalized after ten minutes, a notification will inform the customer their time limit has expired. Temporarily-reserved capacity will again be available for other customers to book.

Configuring the reservation timer

Reservation timer must be enabled by FareHarbor, and is configured per item. Please reach out to FareHarbor Support for assistance enabling this feature.

Once the timer has been enabled for the item(s), the system will temporarily hold the capacity selected by customers booking these experiences.
