Manage resource overrides

  • Updated

Resource overrides let you temporarily change the capacity of a resource without permanently updating its configuration. Use overrides when resource availability changes for a specific period, such as equipment maintenance, seasonal staffing changes, or temporary operational adjustments.

After an override expires, the resource automatically returns to its normal configuration.

Resource override overview

Resource overrides temporarily adjust how many times a resource can be used during a specified date or time range.

Common uses include:

  • Temporarily reducing available equipment.
  • Increasing capacity for a special event.
  • Blocking seats when assigned seating is enabled.
  • Managing short-term operational changes.

Overrides affect only the dates and times you specify. They don't permanently change the resource's settings.

Create a resource override

Create an override from the resource's Uses overview.

To create a resource override:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Resources.
  2. Select the resource you want to update.
  3. Open Uses > Overview.
  4. Select + Create override.
  5. Configure the override.
  6. Select Create override.

If the override would cause the resource to become overused, FareHarbor displays a warning before the override is created.  You can then decide whether to continue creating the override.

View resource overrides

You can review resource overrides from either the Resources list or an individual resource's Uses page.

View which resources have overrides

The Resources list shows whether each resource currently has overrides configured.

To display the Overrides column:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Resources.
  2. Open View settings.
  3. Enable Overrides.

The Overrides column indicates whether a resource currently has one or more overrides configured.

Review overrides for a specific resource

To view the dates and capacity changes for a specific resource:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Resources.
  2. Select the resource.
  3. Open Uses > Overview.

The calendar displays the resource's scheduled capacity along with any configured overrides, allowing you to review temporary capacity changes over time.

Update or delete an override

You can modify or remove an existing override whenever operational requirements change.

To update or delete an override:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Resources.
  2. Select the resource.
  3. Open Uses > Overview.
  4. Select the override you want to manage.
  5. Update the override settings or remove the override as needed.
  6. Save your changes.

Removing an override restores the resource's normal capacity for the affected dates.

Update or delete overrides in bulk

Use the bulk actions to update or remove multiple resource overrides within a selected date range.

Update overrides in bulk

  2. Select the resource you want to update.
  3. Open Uses > Overview.
  4. Select Update overrides.
  5. Enter the Start date and End date for the overrides you want to update.
  6. Enter the new Maximum uses value.
  7. Select Update overrides.

Delete overrides in bulk

To delete multiple overrides:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Resources.
  2. Select the resource.
  3. Open Uses > Overview.

Bulk actions make it easier to manage temporary capacity changes across multiple dates without updating each override individually.

FAQs & common issues

When should I use an override instead of editing the resource?

Use an override when the capacity change is temporary. If the change should apply permanently, update the resource's configuration instead.

Why do I receive an overuse warning?

FareHarbor displays an overuse warning when creating the override would cause the resource to exceed its available capacity during the selected period.

Can overrides affect assigned seating?

Yes. When assigned seating is enabled, seat-specific overrides are available for resources that use seat maps.

Do overrides permanently change a resource?

No. Overrides affect only the dates and times specified in the override. After the override ends, the resource returns to its normal configuration.
