Introduction to the Pace Report

  • Updated

The Pace Report helps you you understand how your business is performing right now compared to the same point in time last year. It is designed to answer a simple but critical question: "Am I ahead, behind, or on pace compared to this exact time last year?"

This page explains what the report shows, how to interpret its data, and what limitations to keep in mind.

Overview of the Pace Report

To view the Pace Report:

  1. Go to your FareHarbor Dashboard > Reports.
  2. Select Performance.
  3. Locate and click on Pace Report.

The Pace Report provides a forward-looking view of demand based on Availability day, which is the date the activity takes place. It compares your current bookings against what your performance looked like on the same calendar date last year for the same future dates. This helps you spot demand shifts before those operating dates arrive.

When to use the Pace Report

Use the Pace Report when you want to understand your current performance rather than past accounting results. It can help you:

  • Identify whether upcoming weeks or months are trending stronger or weaker than last year.
  • Decide whether future dates may need more marketing attention or staffing adjustments.
  • Monitor year-over-year growth for future availability dates.

How the Pace Report works

The Pace Report uses same-time-last-year (STLY) logic. This means it compares what you have booked so far this year for a future date against what you had booked by the same calendar date last year for that equivalent future date.

Example: If today is March 10 and you are reviewing April 15:

  • The data for this year shows all bookings currently received for April 15.
  • The data for last year shows the bookings that had been received by March 10 for April 15.

This gives you an apples-to-apples comparison of booking pace across years.

Each row shows metrics for both years side by side, along with the year-over-year percentage change. A dash (-) means no booking data exists for that period. A value of 0 means data exists, but the metric value is zero.

Key metrics of the Pace Report

The Pace Report tracks three core metrics, all based on Availability day.

Metric Description
Booking total The total value of bookings created to date, including line-item totals and applicable taxes.
Booking count The total number of confirmed reservations for the selected period.
Pax count The total number of passengers or participants across confirmed bookings.

Each metric also includes a year-over-year percentage change so you can quickly compare current performance with the same point last year.

Note: Cancelled bookings are excluded from all Pace Report metrics. Only non-cancelled, confirmed bookings are included.

Report views

You can review the report using these display range options:

  • This week: The current calendar week, based on your company’s week-start setting, limited to the current calendar year.

Note: The default week-start setting is Sunday but it can also be configured to Monday based on your preference.

  • This month: The full current calendar month.
  • This year: January 1 through December 31 of the current calendar year.
  • Custom range: A start and end date that both fall within the same calendar year.

You can also change the report granularity using the View by dropdown:

  • Day: Shows a row for each individual date.
  • Month: Shows a row for each month.

Note: The View by options are only available with the This year and Custom range options.

At the top of the report, the Summary row combines the three key metrics across the full display range for both years, along with the overall percentage change.

What the Pace Report does not show

The Pace Report is not a forecast. It does not predict how many bookings you will eventually receive. It only shows the current state of your performance as of today.

It is also not an accounting tool. Because it is based on Availability day rather than payment timing, it should not be used for tax reporting or payout reconciliation.

For financial reporting, we recommend using the reports under Reports > Accounting.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is the difference between the Pace Report and the YoY (Year-over-Year) graph on the Reports Overview page?

The two reports have a different purpose:

  • Pace Report: Compares this year’s performance so far to last year’s performance up to the same date.

This report helps you answer the question: Am I ahead, behind, or on pace compared to this time last year?

  • YoY graph: Shows you the totals for last year compared to what totals you have so far this year.

This report helps you answer the question: How are my total numbers this year compared to last year?

Metric used Booking Total Booking Total Paid
Comparison logic Bookings received so far this year vs. bookings received by the same date last year. This year’s total paid so far vs. last year’s full-year total.

Why don't cancelled bookings appear in the report?

Cancelled bookings are excluded so the report reflects confirmed demand only. This gives you a cleaner year-over-year comparison.

What does a dash mean in the report?

A dash means there is no booking data for that period in that year. This is different from 0, which means data exists but the metric value is zero.

Why does a custom range need to stay within one calendar year?

The report aligns each selected date with the same date one year earlier. If the range crossed calendar years, that comparison would be harder to interpret consistently.

Which time zone does the report use?

All dates and current-day comparisons are based on your company’s local time zone as configured in the Dashboard.

What should I do if I cannot access the Pace Report?

Check whether your user profile includes the Advanced Reports permission. If you do not see the report, contact your Dashboard administrator to confirm your permission group settings.
