Dock Staff mode: Partial payment and Mark unpaid

  • Updated

During checkout, Dock Staff mode gives you the flexibility to:

  • Collect a partial payment of the total amount due and settle the remaining balance later.
  • Mark a reservation as unpaid and settle the full payment later.

Partial or postponed payments are particularly useful when you need to split customer payments, charge a payment portion upfront, or fully postpone a payment for later.

Important notes and limitations

  • Partial payments require the skip adding payments when creating bookings user permission.
  • Partial payments are only available when the order contains only one booking.
  • Partial payments are not supported when using QR code payments.
  • The amount entered during a partial payment becomes the amount due for that checkout.

When to use partial payments

Use partial payments when you need to collect only part of the total cost at the time of booking.

Partial payments allow you to specify a “due now” amount during checkout and leave the remaining balance outstanding for later collection.

Common scenarios include:

  • Deposits taken at the time of booking.
  • Customers paying in multiple installments.
  • Situations where full payment is postponed until a later date.

To apply a partial payment:

  1. Follow the standard booking flow in Dock until you reach the Cart page.
  2. Select Checkout.
  3. On the Select payment method screen, select Partial payment.
  4. Enter a Due now amount.

  5. Select the customer's payment method.

You can then charge the due now amount and settle the remaining balance at a later stage. The booking is marked with a Payment due label with the due amount specified in the Payment summary.

Note: You can expand the payment summary’s Total field to view the price breakdown and any applied tax.

When to use Mark unpaid

Use Mark unpaid when you need to postpone the full payment but still create the customer’s booking.

Common scenarios include:

  • In cases where payment is handled separately.
  • Situations where payment cannot be processed due to technical difficulties but the booking still needs to be created.

Mark unpaid updates the booking’s payment status without requiring a payment method selection.

To mark a booking as unpaid:

  1. Follow the standard booking flow in Dock until you reach the Cart page.
  2. Select Checkout.
  3. On the Select payment method screen, select Mark unpaid.
  4. Confirm that the remaining balance can be paid later by selecting Mark unpaid.
