Buoy integration
Last updated: April 15, 2024
Overview
FareHarbor integrates with Buoy, a digital insurance solution for boat rental companies. Buoy helps boat rental operators to offer insurance protection that covers both the renter and the rental company during the rental period. Your customers can obtain necessary insurance after the online checkout process by receiving and clicking on a text message with a link to the Buoy platform.
To make use of this integration, you’ll need to create an account with Buoy and register your boats. Follow the steps below to complete the integration. You can always feel free to contact FareHarbor Support if you require assistance with the integration.
How it works
After getting your account setup with Buoy, follow the below steps to allow your customers the ability to purchase insurance coverage directly through the Buoy app:
Create and define a canned message (SMS) containing the Buoy Link in your Dashboard for future use:
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to create canned messages, if needed: https://help.fareharbor.com/dashboard/communication/canned-messages/#creating
Once the customer arrives for their activity after completing the booking, your dockhand will then pull up the FareHarbor Manifest, click into the applicable booking, and send off the saved canned text message to the customer:
After the customer clicks the Buoy link referenced in the text message, they will then be redirected to the Buoy app:
After answering a few questions (one of which will require the boating registration number – this is why this process should take place down at the dock upon customer arrival), the customer will then have the option to purchase or decline insurance directly through Buoy:
Selling points
New Florida regulation was passed to increase boating safety and mandate renter insurance and permits. Boat rental companies who require their customers to have insurance can use FareHarbor’s integration with Buoy to offer insurance after the booking process through a link that gets texted to the customer.
Boat rental companies in Florida can use Buoy to obtain a free FWC Livery Permit.
Supported regions
For now, Buoy can only support FL-based rental companies. In the meantime, please sign up for the national waitlist here.
