Recommended hardware and software
Last updated: January 17, 2024
FareHarbor works just fine on most devices, but if you use the Dashboard regularly as a logged-in user, we have a few hardware and software recommendations that will help you get the best experience.
Learn more about recommended system specifications by clicking into each section below.
Note: If you’re not yet a FareHarbor customer, you may not have access to some of the links on this page.
Types of devices
Desktop computers and laptops
In general, we recommend Windows or macOS X-based computers purchased within the last two years. FareHarbor will also work on Chromebooks, although it’s important to note that printing from a Chromebook requires a wireless printer setup.
Suggested minimum system requirements are a 64-bit 1.8+ GHz processor, 8GB of RAM, and a display with a resolution of at least 1024×768.
Tablets
We recommend the following types of tablets:
- Windows: Microsoft’s Surface tablets. Note: These tablets are best suited to using FareHarbor in a web browser, rather than with the FareHarbor app.
- iOS: Apple iPads released within the last 18 months.
- Android: Samsung tablets released within the last 18 months.
Suggested minimum system requirements are 1-2 GB RAM and displays that are 8 inches or larger.
Smartphones
We suggest iOS or Android smartphones released within the last 18 months.
FareHarbor.com is a responsive website, meaning it adapts to fit your screen, whether you’re using a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.
Software
Browsers
Windows & Mac Computers
We strongly suggest using the latest version of Google Chrome as your browser.
You can use any of the following browsers, making sure they meet the minimum version number:
- Google Chrome version 63 or later
- Mozilla Firefox version 60 or later
- Apple Safari version 10.1 or later
- Microsoft Edge version 18 or later
Note: Internet Explorer (IE) is not supported.
iOS & Android
- Our iOS app is available for devices running iOS 13 or later.
- Our Android app is available for devices running Android 8.0 or later.
Some features of FareHarbor will not work with outdated or unsupported software, and we are unable to provide technical support in this case.
For your customers booking online, we support a wide range of browsers, including legacy versions, to maximize potential bookings.
JavaScript
You will need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser in order to use FareHarbor. Most browsers allow sites to run JavaScript by default, but if you’ve previously disabled it, you’ll need to go into your browser settings and turn it back on.
Note: You may also have Java installed on your computer, but this is different from JavaScript and is not required to run FareHarbor.
Ad blockers
If you use an ad blocker on your computer, we strongly suggest whitelisting fareharbor.com. We use words that are sometimes identified and blocked by these plugins (like “affiliate”) that may cause FareHarbor to not work correctly.
System updates
Machines should be scanned for viruses, malware, and malicious plugins regularly, as they can greatly affect web performance. We do warn against using Windows XP, as Microsoft ended support for it in 2014.
Internet connection
We recommend broadband internet for an ideal experience. Broadband internet is always connected (vs. dial-up) and runs at a download speed of at least 25 megabits per second (Mbps). If you’re not sure what your download speed is, you can check on fast.com.
Printers, cash drawers, card readers, and scanners
You may also want to use additional hardware such as receipt printers, cash drawers, credit card swipers, or check-in scanners. In these cases, see our recommendations below. Please make sure to select the section based on your geographic location.
