Collecting tips on FareHarbor Dock

  • Updated

Additional information is available to FareHarbor employees.

You can collect tips from customers on FareHarbor Dock during checkout or after a booking is created. Customers select a tip amount on the device and complete payment using an eligible payment method associated with the booking. Tipping is available on both Staff mode and Kiosk mode.

Tipping must be enabled for your account before tip options appear in Dock. Contact FareHarbor Support or your Account Manager to request this.

Tipping overview

You can collect a tip:

  • During checkout, when creating a booking (Staff mode and Kiosk mode).
  • After a booking is created, from the booking details screen (Staff mode only).

When customers are asked to tip, they can choose one of the below options:

  • A preset tip option (amount or percentage)
  • Enter a custom amount
  • No tip.

Notes:

  • Tipping on Dock is only available for card payments. If the payment is made via QR code or cash, there is no tipping option.
  • Tips can be offered as preset amounts, percentages, or a custom amount.
  • The tip is recorded separately from the original booking payment.
  • The tip is associated with the booking for reporting purposes.
  • Tips collected through Dock are available in reporting and are visible on the booking.

Configuring tips on Dock

Once tipping has been enabled for your account, you can configure it to your preference in FareHarbor Dock by navigating to Settings > Tipping.

You can configure three preset tip options by:

  • Selecting between Percentage or Flat amount.
  • Entering your preferred preset values.

If the Enable tipping at checkout toggle is on, your customers can add a tip before payment so the booking total and tip are paid together in one transaction. Checkout tipping works in both Staff mode and Kiosk mode.

Checkout tips in Kiosk mode

Adding a tip on Dock Kiosk mode is almost the same process as on Staff mode. The only difference is that there is no step to hand the device to the customer because they are already using the kiosk to book themselves.

To add a tip in Kiosk mode, the customer:

  1. Starts creating a booking.
  2. During checkout, the customer is taken to a Would you like to tip? screen. (Note: Tipping is not available for QR code or cash payments.)
  3. The customer selects a tip option or No tip.
  4. They tap Confirm and pay.

Once payment is processed successfully, the tip is recorded against the booking.

Collecting tips from an existing booking

You can collect a tip after a booking is created from the booking details screen in Staff mode.

To collect a tip for an existing booking:

  1. Open Dock in Staff mode.
  2. Navigate to the booking you want to update.
  3. Open the booking details screen.
  4. Select Add tip.
  5. Hand the device over to the customer.
  6. Ask the customer to select a tip amount or enter a custom amount.
  7. Once the customer has made their choice, they can tap Confirm and pay.
  8. Take back the device and complete payment if prompted.

Once the payment is processed successfully, the tip is recorded against the booking.

Note: Collecting tips from existing bookings is not available in Kiosk mode.

Reporting on tips on the FareHarbor Dashboard

You can report on tip amounts on your FareHarbor Dashboard's Bookings reports. This is possible by:

  • Adding the Tip Amount column
  • Filtering by Is Tip Collected to only see bookings with a tip

You can also specify a date range, add more filters, and group the results of the Bookings report.

For example, you can Group by:

  • Availability date to show the tip amounts per day.
  • Item to see which items generate the most tips.

Note: The Tip Amount column and Is Tip Collected filter are only available on Bookings reports. They cannot be added on other advanced reports such as Sales reports.
