Bancontact
Last updated: October 28, 2021
Bancontact is the most popular online payment method in Belgium, with over 15 million cards in circulation. Customers use their mobile app linked to a Belgian bank account to make online payments that are secure, guaranteed, and confirmed immediately.
To pay with Bancontact, customers are redirected to the Bancontact website or mobile app to authorize the payment, and then return to your website where there is immediate notification about the success or failure of the payment.
Note: Bancontact is only available for Dashboards that use Euros. Please reach out to FareHarbor Support if you’d like to enable Bancontact for your company.
Why should I enable Bancontact?
If you have a large number of Belgium customers, introducing Bancontact as a payment method is one way to easily add a trusted payment method. When customers see a trusted payment option they are familiar with, they may be more likely to convert.
Notes
- Because Bancontact payments basically function as a bank transfer and the customer has explicitly authenticated the payment, disputes are not possible for Bancontact payments.
- Refunds are processed as normal. However, refunds issued for Bancontact payments must be issued within 180 days of the original payment.
- There is no change to payout processing using Bancontact.
