Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Can we use Tap to Pay on the device instead of a Stripe card reader?
Using Tap to Pay is possible on all devices with NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities, however:
- It’s not supported on iPads
- It's only supported on Android devices that do not have developer options on
What should we consider when choosing hardware for a standalone or unattended kiosk?
Unattended kiosks require stable, always-on payment handling. Internet-connected card readers are typically more reliable than Bluetooth readers in these environments.
Why might a Bluetooth card reader not be ideal for kiosk use?
Bluetooth readers can enter idle states after inactivity and may require manual interaction to resume. This can interrupt unattended or self-service kiosks.
Can Dock continue to take payments if the card reader disconnects?
Yes, QR code payment can be used as a fallback payment method when a reader is not connected. Learn more about QR code payments with FareHarbor Dock.
Can I rely on software settings to improve text size or accessibility on the device?
Display size and readability are primarily determined by the device’s screen size and resolution. In-app text scaling may vary and should not be assumed when selecting hardware.
Can I use Dock kiosks in outdoor or high-exposure environments?
As Kiosk hardware and setup varies, we recommend checking this with your FareHarbor Account Manager or directly with Kiosk Group at hardware-support@kioskgroup.com.
